The Procedure vs. the Torchlight, April 1, 2011

 The Torchlight

In a small primitive village, the traffic controller was called to be questioned after two trains collided in an terrible accident under his watch. . In the interrogation, he was asked by his supervisor to determine his responsibilty in this accident.

Q- “On that night, were you awake?
R: Yes I was
Q: “Did you wave the torchlight to the incoming trains?”
R: Yes I did
Q: Did you wave your torchlight in the right way and in the right Time and followed the right procedures?
R: Yes sir, I definitely did

After the first round of investigations were completed, no obvious reason for the accident was found and a second round of investigation was started. When the controller was called again he was asked again the same questions,

R- Q: “On that night, were you awake?
R: Yes
Q: “Did you wave the torchlight to the incoming trains?”
R: Yes I did
Q: Did you wave your torchlight in the right way and in the right Time and followed the right procedures?
R: Mmmmm I guess I did

The supervisor called the traffic controller again and asked him:
“I am a little puzzled …, we asked you the same questions over and over and you consistently gave the same answers …. Why do I have that feeling that you were as sure of your answer as were earlier …?? “

The traffic controller sighed and answered in a sad voice ….
“Sir, I did wake up on the right time, I did follow the procedure and I waved the torchlight to both trains …..But there was only on thing I didn’t do …..”

“And what was that?”
“I forgot to light the torchlight “ I just waved it to the trains!

The Story ends, yet some questions still needs answers

Do we live by just following the procedure correctly?
When we wave to people with our torchlights, to point them to the right way?
Are our torchlights lit or are we just following the "procedure" ?
Do we live our lives and conduct ourselves in such a way that the Light of Christ within shines ……?
