A Call to Repentance: Clergy Confession at the Sacred Assembly 9/22/2007
Recognizing the privileges and responsibilities of leadership; we the pastors of our Lord's Church on Cape Cod unite to declare our allegiance to the living God and our full devotion to serving Him together.
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent, for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. [Episcopal Book of Common Prayer]
Back
Lord, please forgive us:
when we think Your people are our people
when we choose to offend You because we are unwilling to offend Your people
when Your house of prayer becomes merely our place of employment
when we begin our day with a to do list instead of on our face before You
when all ministry efforts take priority over prayer
when discouragement causes us to change course, instead of to persevere
when steadfast is an adjective and not a lifestyle
when the latest Christian publication is more interesting the Your Son, Jesus, the Word
when camaraderie replaces accountability
when we walk in our position and not in the Armor of God
when our counsel to Your people is man's wisdom and not the Word of God
when our preparation takes precedence over Your Presence
when we mishandle laypeople and cause injury
when we look for status and success
when staying on plan, or on schedule, is more important than waiting on Your Spirit
when we choose to comfort Your children when You want to convict them
when we allow servanthood to sustain Your people rather than discipleship
when we are unwilling to bring Your family to the maturing fullness of who they are In Christ
As shepherds of God's Flock we know that we have been entrusted with leadership and must take responsibility for the spiritual condition of Cape Cod. We must be Salt and Light and must lead with urgency and unction, the passion for Holy Living and energetic evangelism.
With God's help today we seek a new way of leadership, working cooperatively with brothers and sisters in the Kingdom and ask for courage to be obedient to God's voice in moving forward with the vision of the Glory of God on Cape Cod.
