Air Supremacy Insures Victory

Air Supremacy Insures Victory

In modern warfare their is no substitute for Air Supremacy. This is achieved when the enemy has been successfully “grounded” by eliminating his ability to wage war in the air. Every military leader knows and understands the importance of Air Supremacy and its ability to greatly weaken the enemy. The ground troops are far more effective when Air Supremacy has been achieved.

Nowhere in scripture do we see a better example of the air and ground troops working together than in Exodus 17:8-13

8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.” 10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

What a great picture we have here. A man of prayer exercising his God given authority over a battle field clears the way for the ground troops to win. The Church could take some well learned lessons here. We often get so focused on the ground war that we miss the need for Air Supremacy. We spend so much time fighting or ministering in the earthly realm (the ground war) that we all but dismiss the spiritual realm.

Several years ago the house of prayer I was a part of agreed to pray for an upcoming   Promise Keepers meeting that was coming to our city. We committed several hours per week to this effort for six weeks. We prayed for deep conviction and for men to turn their hearts fully to the Lord. According to the leaders of Promise Keepers it was the largest and most powerful response ever in their history. That is saying alot since Promise Keepers has been around for decades. Why did this happen? I am convinced that it is because Air Supremacy was achieved over that meeting. The darkness was pushed back and the light of God shone brightly on the hearts of men.

Back in 2006 I met a pastor of an inner city church. I mentioned to him how nice the neighborhood was around his church. He was quick to tell me that it was not always that way. In fact, he informed me that it was once known as the most dangerous place in that city. When I inquired as to how it all changed he recounted the story of how he and his church members decided to take the neighborhood back for God. They set up a systematic prayer walk that covered every street and park. People took responsibility for different streets and committed to regular prayer walks. Within months minor changes were noticeable and within a year the neighborhood was significantly improved, and as they continued praying the neighborhood only got better. The tide had turned in the spirit realm over that neighborhood and now the efforts this church to meet the needs of the community were far more successful.

For our ministry efforts to yield the most fruit we must win the war in the heavenlies first. Air supremacy insures victory!
