Report on the January GOGCC Prayer Meeting at Christ Chapel
by Mike Malanga on January 24, 2019Greetings all,
On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, Christians from various churches across Cape Cod gathered together to hear a message by Dr. J. Edwin Orr and to pray for the Lord to send awakening to His church and revival to our land. You are welcome to view Dr. Orr’s presentation by clicking on the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW9Bb5tkOO4&t=81s
Although recorded in 1976, Dr. Orr's message, “The Role of Prayer in Spiritual Awakening” built on a timeless truth: united and concerted prayer among churches of like-minded, Christ-centered, gospel-preaching churches is the key to spiritual awakening and revival. Dr. Orr’s message provided a helpful historical perspective regarding past awakenings and revivals. Whereas we believe we are living in very dark times now, the history of the church in America reveals that our nation and our churches have experienced darker, more sustained periods of spiritual lethargy and antipathy toward Christ and His church.
Yet when the darkness seemed impenetrable, God’s people gathered for united, concerted prayer with one aim: that the Spirit of God would awaken His church to prayer and gospel-living and that He would open the hearts of the unchurched to the truth, beauty, and grace of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Dr. Orr reminded us that God is sovereign and He sends His Spirit to stir His people to pray in united, concerted prayer for spiritual awakening and revival.
After the video, Pastor Myron Heckman encouraged us to gather in small groups to pray for the Lord of the harvest to send awakening, revival, and laborers for the harvest.
Included in the evening’s worship was a song written by Dr. Orr, titled “Search Me God” the chorus of reads as follows:
I praise you Lord, for cleansing me from sin,
Fulfill your Word, and make me pure within.
Fill me with fire where once I burned with shame.
Grant my desire to magnify your name.
As we continue to pray for spiritual awakening and revival let us do so with an attitude of repentance, resolve, and trust in our sovereign God to answer our prayer and magnify His name.
We will meet again for corporate prayer Wednesday, 27 February 2019 at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship, Sandwich, Massachusetts (http://lighthousecapecod.org/)
Grace and peace,
Pastor Michael Malanga
