Statement From the GOGCC Leadership Team About the Current Presidential Election
"Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His, and He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings....
And in the days of these kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever..." Daniel 20,21,44
We are enjoined by Scripture "That petitions, prayer, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." 1 Tim 2:1-2
As a nation we are in the throes of a bitterly contested presidential election with a deeply divided electorate. Whatever our political leanings are, we believe the Church on Cape Cod is united on the following principles:
1. Our allegiance to the kingdom of God takes precedence over all others.
"Our citizenship is in heaven.." Phil 3:20
2. Our prayer is to see the manifestation of the kingdom of heaven here on earth.
"Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.." Matthew 6:10
3. We believe that in all respects the promotion of righteousness is best for our nation.
"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condems any people.." Proverbs 13:34
4. It is the united, consecrated, vibrant, praying Church, that has the responsibility and authority to displace darkness in society, not politicians or Supreme Court justices.
"You are the light of the world.." Matthew 5:14. "I will build My Church, and the gates of hell
shall not prevail against it..." Matthew 16:18
Regardless of the outcome, God remains on His throne. The Bible clearly teaches that God calls
leaders of nations to their posts. He lifts them and their nations up and He brings them down.
God can and will work with and through whoever is elected and He will accomplish His sovereign purpose. Let us comport ourselves with dignity as the process unfolds and as we each excercise our right to vote.
