One Body and One Family
GOGCC Worship and Prayer Gathering
Sunday June 13th, 2021
4-6 pm
Wellfleet Town Pier
255 Commercial Street
Wellfleet,MA

Dear friends,

The Lord opened the door for us to have another worship and prayer gathering in the public square next month!

Earlier this month, the GOGCC team was stirred to take our monthly multi-church prayer meetings to the public square for the next few months. We began to approach different towns to obtain permits to hold such meetings.

Pastor Frank Alexander of Grace Chapel in Wellfleet began looking into obtaining a permit for Wellfleet last week for us to meet on June 13th. The town rules require applications to be submitted 30 days in advance. However, when pastor Frank told the recreation department head of what we want to do, she encouraged him to apply anyway, despite the short notice, and she said she would take care of everything, coordinate with the different town admistrators involved and expedite the process. Pastor Frank has never met this woman before yet the Lord gave him favor in her eyes to take that initiative and do all that on her own. Yesterday the town selectmen met to vote on the permit request and they unanimously approved it, despite the short notice.

The gathering will include a time of worship, pastors and leaders leading in prayer from Scriptures, and a time of small group prayer.

Mark your calendar, plan to join us, spread the word and invite your friends!

As you know, 17 years ago the Lord stirred a number of pastors and leaders from different denominations, theological backrounds, ethnic groups and generations, to pursue unity, consecration/repentance, and united prayer. He put a dream and a desire in our hearts to see His glory in our midst.

One thought to consider regarding that stirring is this: Psalm 105 gives us a prophetic understanding of the story of Joseph in Genesis.  The book of Genesis gives us the chronological narrative of how this story unfolded, beginning with Joseph's birth and childhood, with one event leading to another from the time his brothers sold him till he became second in command in Egypt. Psalm 105 however, gives us the prophetic narrative of the story as it unfolded in God's heart.

We see in that Psalm that in God's heart, the story didn't begin with Joseph's brothers being jealous of him, selling him as a slave and then unfolding from there. It began with the Lord ordaining His purposes ahead of time: "He called for a famine in the land; He destroyed all the provision of bread", and His plans to provide for and prepare His people for that time, "He sent a man before them.."

Joseph himself had that prophetic understanding: "And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance." (Genesis 45:7)

As you know, this is a pattern of God's ways with man in the Scriptures, that He typically sets things and people in place to prepare His people for what is coming. A couple of examples are the stories of Moses and Esther, among many others, when He also placed both of them in a specific place at a specific time, for the specific purpose He ordained for them and for their generation:

"And when the time of the promise drew near....at this time, Moses was born.." (Acts 7:17,20).

"Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

With that in mind, we know that the Lord sovereignly placed all of us here on Cape Cod for such a time as this, and stirred us with a vision to see His Glory on Cape Cod.

Is it possible that the Lord has been preparing us ahead of time for some things that are coming?
Does God have a prophetic narrative in His heart for Cape Cod?
Does He have specific purposes for this region?
Does He communicate what is on His Heart to His people through His Word and His Spirit?

We believe so, and we also believe that the Lord has used the challenging past season of 2020 to remind us to go back to the basics of loving the Lord and loving one another as one family.

To put pursuing unity/oneness in perspective, consider the wide spectrum of possible ways that Christian leaders and churches in a region could relate to one another, and the possible progress/maturity in such relationships to align with God's Word and God’s heart:

* Bad relationships:
Division/competition/polarization/jealousy/strife.
As you know the Scriptures talk about these (1 Cor 1:10-30, 3:3, 11:18). These are usually rooted in carnality and selfish ambition (James 4:1, 3 John 1:9). Sometimes these are overt and sometimes they are matters of the heart that are concealed with outward courteous behavior.

* No relationships: Avoidance of relationships altogether/No desire and no openness to relate to other Christian leaders/churches.

* Courteous, polite, superficial relationships, careful to maintain independence and distance. No collaboration or Kingdom mindset.

* Friendly, close relationships that collaborate on events but maintain a sense of independence similar to independent franchisees of a business collaborate on events for mutual interests.

* Biblical unity/oneness in which regional leaders recognize that independence is not biblical, that "The eye cannot say to the hand I have no need of you". Out of zeal for the Glory of  God, and desire to see His name exalted, we respond to His stirring and pursue  relational unity/oneness, consecration and united prayer. We recognize that the "Bride belongs to the bridegroom” (John 3:29) and we are merely "friends of the bridegroom".

Pastors and leaders have the wonderful privilege and opportunity to lead and encourage their flock toward all of us becoming one body and one family.

The statement below summarizes why we gather together in unity as ONE BODY, and why we do all that we do:

We gather in response to the Lord's stirring us with His desire to show His glory in our midst, and the subsequent spiritual awakening/revival on Cape Cod, with multitudes coming to Christ.

By pursuing unity, consecration, and united prayer, we prepare ourselves for what God wants to do in our midst.

"Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool, what kind of a house you (plural) will build for Me, or where is the place of My rest?" (Acts 7:49)

"In whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,  in whom you (plural) also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."
(Ephesians 2:21,22)
